Names draw us
Naming is never a straight line. Over multiple rounds of deep exploration, we worked through dozens of possibilities for the endeavour: references to rhetoric, narrative, personhood, light, motion and the mechanics of film. The process was exhaustive and generative, and eventually birthed Lumière, the French word for light.
Light is everything
No light, no film. In cinematic and photographic work, light is everything. It captures attention, crafts atmosphere and makes storytelling possible. The name also nods to Louis and Auguste Lumière, French pioneer filmmakers who invented the Cinématographe in 1895 and, with it, cinema itself! Elemental, elegant and loaded with meaning.
Bringing light to life
The name shaped the concept: light as a creative philosophy. Lumière is candid and fresh, human and professional. Lumière, as light, reflects, refracts and diffracts. A strategic framework that speaks to clarity of process, the collaborative nature of creativity, and the lasting impact of honest work.
The brand’s visual language plays with light as a graphic device. The chosen logo is quietly effusive, pairing a refined sans-serif wordmark with a striking icon derived from the ‘L’. The form evokes light and radiance. Imagery is eclectic and textural. Flipped, reversed, reflected. This is the world seen through a different lens, and stories told beautifully.
From concept to content. Strategy to storytelling. Vision to visual.
